INTERNATIONAL TYPOGRAPHIC STYLE

The International Typographic Style is known as the Swiss Style and was created by artists in Switzerland in the 1950s, emerging in Russia, the Netherlands and Germany in the 1920s.

HELVETICA

Helvetica is a 'Grotesque' without a serif. It was produced in the 1950s to fulfill the demand for san serif types in the tradition of the worldwide fashion style.
Helvetica is one of the world's most common and commonly used types.
The President of Haas type foundry, Eduard Hoffmann, became anxious in the mid-1950s. In mid-1950. Sales of their "Grotesque" types without serif had fallen and it had become apparent that the traditional styles of the foundry had struggled to bid with their rival offers, such as the Akzidenz-Grotesk typeface of the Berthold type of foundry.

DE FILM POSTER

It's an affiche. Josef Müller Brockmann invented the product. It date from 1959 to 1960, and we got it from 1999. The lithograph on paper is offset by its medium. It is part of the department of design, printing and graphics.

This poster is regarded as a modernist masterpiece. Josef Müller-Brockmann used typography to investigate the concept of cinematic montage by overlapping the term "Film" with the article "der" [The]. A room behind (and a time before) White Text is occupied with gray characters.

Purchase of the General Acquisitions Endowment Fund from the museum is credited.

THE BOOK, TYPOGRAPHIE: A MANUAL FOR DESIGN

The book, Typographie: A Manual for Design, represents a critical reflection on Ruder's teaching and practice as well as a lifetime of accumulated knowledge. Other than publishing his book Typographie, he is known for his use of the grid system in Swiss Style design as well as his poster designs.

As other artists, he preferred asymmetrical designs, putting great emphasis on character contrats and the negative space of compositions. He was part of the Swiss Design revolution. Ruder played a major role in the growth of graphic design in 1940s and 50s as a friend and collaborator with Hofmann, Frutiger and Müller Brockmann. Many artists have imitated his style, and using grids in architecture has inspired web design on several occasions.
